Sail the Mighty Nile in Style

Platinum DreamTrip
Spend time exploring Cairo city & Giza pyramids before a 4-night cruise on the Nile River from Luxor to Aswan, stopping for fully-escorted excursions to ancient Karnak & Luxor temple complexes & much more. Includes 2 domestic flights. Book by November 3.

About Your Trip

The banks of the mighty Nile River are home to landmarks spanning 3,000 years, from the age of the pyramids to the Egyptian Empire. It’s one of the world’s greatest civilizations, and on this unforgettable Platinum DreamTrip, you’ll experience many of these magnificent wonders!

In the capital city, you’ll see the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, part of UNESCO-protected Historic Cairo. This imposing fortification, built in 1183, houses museums and mosques such as the Great Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, built of alabaster in 1848. Continue to the Egyptian Museum where thousands of artifacts are on exhibit, including the funeral mask of the pharaoh Tutankhamun (King Tut), mummies of animals and items from the tombs of ancient pharaohs. Then, get ready to visit the Giza pyramid complex. It’s like time stands still as you view these massive structures arising from the desert. Walk around and get a sense of the enormity of the human endeavor that built them.

On Day 3, hop aboard your cruise boat where you’ll sail the Nile with stops for shore excursions along the way. In Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes, see historical sites in and around this city that are equally important as the beloved Giza pyramid complex. At Karnak temple complex, marvel at colossal columns, towering obelisks and a sacred lake, and at the Luxor temple complex, one of the world’s best-preserved ancient monuments, admire walls covered in relief carvings, statues of seated kings and a courtyard flanked by papyrus columns. Visit the Valley of the Kings, known for an extensive necropolis where nobles, queens and kings — including King Tut — were buried with their riches in tombs cut deep into the rocky hills. Stop at Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and Colossi of Memnon with gigantic twin statues that have stood there for thousands of years. More temples await, and you’ll explore the Temple of Horus and the Temple of Sobek before going to Aswan High Dam and the Philae temple complex.

Head back to Cairo on Day 7 and enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow DreamTrippers. Share stories and experiences with new friends — all in a casual setting designed for conversation and good times.

What we love:
• The Giza pyramid complex comprises 3 main pyramids — Great Pyramid of Giza, Pyramid of Menkaure and Pyramid of Khafre — as well as the Great Sphinx of Giza, cemeteries, funerary temples, valley temples and smaller queen pyramids.
• King Tut’s tomb was discovered in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings. While most of the tombs were pillaged, this one remained untouched, and many of its legendary treasures — like his funeral mask — are on display in Cairo’s Egyptian Museum.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

While Cairo was established in 939, the area has been continuously inhabited for 4,000 years with the ancient settlement of Memphis just southwest of the city. It’s in Saqqara that the first pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoser, was built. Later, in 2,500 B.C.E., on a plateau on the west bank of the Nile, the Giza pyramids began construction as tombs for the remains of Pharaohs as well as items they may need in the afterlife. The Great Pyramid took 20 years, 2 million blocks of stone and 20,000 workers to complete — although this theory, and other speculations about the pyramids, are highly debated among scholars.

Today, Cairo is the largest city in the Arab world with a population of 20 million people. Set on the banks of the Nile, it contains hundreds of registered historic monuments and the oldest university on the planet, Al-Azhar Mosque located in Islamic Cairo.
